Pink Pig Gets Celebrity Chef Health Boost

A fantastic free event is taking place this Saturday at The Pink Pig Farm Shop & Restaurant at Holme near Scunthorpe which is sure to appeal to everyone who pledged 2008 as their year of healthy living.

Local celebrity chef, Nigel Brown from Goxhill who was talent spotted by Jean-Christophe Novelli to teach at his world renowned Academy, will be demonstrating wholesome tasty meals using seasonal vegetables and free range meat with the style you would expect from a top class chef. Nigel regularly demonstrates nationwide alongside James Martin, Rachel Green and many others.

Sally Jackson, who owns and runs The Pink Pig with husband Andrew, is inviting children to come and make their own pizza from scratch using fresh veggies and local ham and cheese. Sally’s team will bake them so they can be eaten for lunch in the restaurant with their parents at only £2.99 per child. Nigel added ‘This is a great opportunity for kids to get involved in preparing their own food. Children are much more likely to try different food if they’ve made it themselves’.

Adults can enjoy a taster of alternative therapies including Reiki, Candling or Indian Head Massage as well as sampling tasty healthy offerings from the Farm Shop such as fruit, vegetables, healthy dips and smoothies. Sally said ‘January is the perfect time to boost your body’s immune system with vitamin-packed fresh produce and with the huge range available in our shop there is always something there to tempt even the die-hard junk food addict!’

The estate is proposing to produce the ultimate Classical Christmas Experience. The show will have its usual attractions based around the Victorian Christmas theme that includes hundreds of candles lighting up the interior of the house, characters in costume, roasted chestnuts, carol singers and a whole host of traditional entertainment. A huge new attraction for 2007 will be the opening of the Gardens, lit by thousands of lights aspiring to create an idyllic Christmas Scene, including snow showers, reindeer sleigh rides and a children’s treasure hunt. The retail area adds a key focus to the show. Using heated, lined, floored, framed marquees we will create a warm, friendly environment with specialist demonstrations and activities that will capture the imagination of the public.

Attractions include:
Ice sculpting, reindeer, donkeys, snow showers, and
Victorian fairground rides.

There are two key areas within the retail area:

Craft and Gifts – With space for approximately 50 trade stands this area aims to provide a first class shopping experience with the public picking up last minute Christmas presents.

Food Court – Situated in a separate pavilion the food court provides the main catering for the show. In addition this area has a comprehensive entertainments program that includes, carol singers, children’s entertainment and a chef demonstration.

This year will only run for four nights, instead of six, and the estate is aiming to attract an average of 4,000 visitors each evening. The profile of the show is changing to create a stronger link with the Victorian theme. The house, the gardens and the entertainments are undergoing a revamp and the Estate is making a considerable investment in the show. In addition, extra financial commitment is being made to promote what will be Shugborough Estates’ largest show of the year. Exhibitors will also have the opportunity to win back their stand fees by simply dressing in a Victorian costume and dressing their stand accordingly we will enter them into a prize draw with the first prize being a full refund on their stand. Over 20,000 visitors are expected to attend this year’s East Midlands Food & Drink Festival.

Attractions for this year’s Festival include top name celebrity chefs Jean Christophe Novelli (Sunday), Nigel Brown (Sunday) Rachel Green (Saturday) Clarissa Dickson Wright (Saturday and Sunday) along with many other top ranking regional chefs and demonstrations.

The theme for this year’s food and drink event is ‘Make it Local’ – supporting local producers and also about making it yourself. Visitors can see cheese being made, bread baked, pies raised, sausages linked, pasta pressed, chocolate tempered and a whole host of foods in the making.

The Superchef Secret is mirrors. If you pop into your local supermarket and buy a box of fancy cakes for tea, once you’ve opened the packet and plonked them on a plate they never quite resemble the pretty picture on the front of the box. However, if you dig out that old mirror you put in the back of the garage because it didn’t match your new colour scheme, give it a good clean with some antibacterial spray and then arrange your cakes and pastries on the top, suddenly you’ve promoted your French fancies and mini éclairs into top chef style petit fours.

The same principle applies to all kinds of other dishes too. Cold meats look fantastic fanned out over the mirror with some cherry tomato and parsley garnishing, samosas look like they’ve doubled in quantity and a large creamy gateau wouldn’t look out of place during afternoon tea at The Ritz.
